Altitude and 2018

2018 was Altitude 10x-ed!

What a year it has been for Altitude! And me, personally! Not only has my amazing Altitude family grown, but my own family grew by another cute little baby boy too! 2018 will definitely always hold a special place in my heart.

Last year, Altitude Christchurch made a move into a brand new studio, much MUCH bigger than I had originally planned to move into. And thank goodness we did! Growing from 100 members in our old studio to nearly 240 members now. To keep up with that, we’ve had to grow from what we thought was a lot of classes at 45 classes per week, to a whooping 80+ classes per week! You guys definitely like to pole, silk, hoop, and stretch! In the new year we’ll be up to a team of over 25 employees, including 2 full time instructors, a client manager, a studio manager and Steph as our brand manager (you might have noticed all our graphics got waayyyy better once I stopped attempting them!).

In 2018, CHCH Central alone ran 3 showcases, 6 photoshoots and raised $2600 for charities! Next year will see some more team changes with Megan and Rosie both pregnant and our amazing Mel, sadly leaving us for a new dream job in Timaru (awesome for her, sad for us). While I’m sure we will be seeing Rosie and Megan around with their babies and they’ll be back in no time, we will really miss Mel, who has been with us from almost the VERY start of Altitude and represents so much of what we are all about. Fun, passion and sassy, sexy confidence!

Up the top of New Zealand we have had some huge changes with the North Shore studio too! Some exciting renovations with the ballet barre going in, the new rigging system and of course a whole new room of poles! And there are some even more exciting changes lined up for early next year that we just know you are going to LOVE. The team has grown hugely up there too with the awesome combo of Rhiannon and Sam coming on board as Studio and Client Manager, freeing up Sarah to take her next life step in opening her own Altitude! And of course, North Shore took out the NZ Pole Industry Awards, STUDIO OF THE YEAR AWARD!!!! And our very own Michelle Kasey taking out INDUSTRY PERSON OF THE YEAR award!! Can’t really get much better than that hey?

And of course, we can’t forget the latest new family members joining our beautiful Altitude community. First up we had Emma Dewhurst (definitely a Woman Crush Wednesday candidate) from Pole Dance Wanganui, make the jump to becoming the first Altitude franchise to open up. If you’ve met any of the Altitude Whanganui crew yet, you’ll know just how awesome they are, if you haven’t met them yet, keep an eye out for them, they really are the most amazing group of humans you might ever meet.

Next up, as per our recent announcement, our very own Sarah Barr (nee Cuthill) and Julia Benson, are opening brand new Altitudes' in South Auckland and Wigram, Christchurch. We can’t wait to watch them grow through 2019! And of course, meet all the awesome new members of each studio.

So what’s next for 2019? That’s a great question. There are definitely some mega exciting things being planned that we know you are all going to love. Altitude’s growth means we can create more for our amazing community and I promise it’s only going to get better for all of you. But mostly we want to continue making things fun, social and empowering for every single one of you. In this world we live in, fitness and health is becoming more and more important, and I believe there needs to be a change towards more active play, more community and more finding our passion, rather than drudging away in a gym like a chore. Whether you find your passion with pole, aerials or something completely different, we hope you find a way to combine movement with passion, because that can only lead to good things :)
