(Pole) Dance Like No One's Watching - Confidence Edition
In this blog, Karry Summers, our badass #BossBabe Founder explores how pole dancing helps build confidence, one spin at a time. 💃
Confidence isn't just something you order online and have delivered overnight; it's more like a journey full of plot twists, awkward dance moves, and occasional pep talks in the mirror. And if there's one place where this journey gets a whole lot sassier, it's during a class at Altitude.
1. Embracing the Uncomfy Stuff
Imagine this: you're standing in front of the pole, heart racing, palms sweating, and the voice inside your head going, "What on earth do I do here?"
That's your cue to grab onto that pole and show your inner doubts who's boss. Because, let's face it, the best stories always start with "I was scared as hell, but I did it anyway."
We've created a safe space where you can face those fears and overcome them - which, of course, leads to more confidence. Why? 'Cause you know whatever comes at you next... you #GotThis. 💪
2. Forget the world
Newsflash: Most people are too busy scrolling through their phones or contemplating the meaning of life to judge those learning alongside them.
Beyond that, everyone in class is likely feeling the same or remembers when this was new to them, too. There really is zero judgement!
Next time you have the chance, whether that’s at pole or just cooking dinner, channel your inner superstar and dance like you've got an audience of millions - even if it's just your cat giving you side-eye from the sofa.
Embracing that freedom to let go and dance without inhibitions will leave you feeling empowered to tackle that next challenge life throws at you like a pro.
3. Own Your Quirkiness
Here's the thing about pole dancing: there's no such thing as "standard." Whether you're rocking a killer heels routine or channeling your inner unicorn with some whimsical spins, the only rule is to own your quirks like a boss.
The freedom you can find when you let yourself switch off, listen to that song and just move… now that’s therapy! And like anything, the more you do it, the easier it gets.
When you allow yourself to let loose and embrace your uniqueness, you'll discover a whole new level of self-confidence. That feeling, of course, sticks with you even after you step out of the pole studio, making it easier to be your true, authentic self in every part of your life ❤️
4. I Hope you Dance
I have a tattoo on my arm that says, “I hope you dance”. The meaning behind this line is 10 fold. It’s to remind me that life is a dance with stumbles and flow. That given the choice between my comfort zone and something scary - do the scary thing.
That when something feels hard, take a moment and find the rhythm, the joy, before carrying on. And of course, the lyrics from the song with that name; “when you get a choice to sit it out or dance… I hope you dance.” 💃
Pole dancing isn't just about defying gravity or mastering fancy spins; it's a journey of self-discovery, confidence-building, and a whole lot of laughter (often at ourselves) along the way.
So, grab that pole, crank up the music, and dance like there's no tomorrow -because in the end, the only judge that matters is the one in the mirror, giving you a thumbs-up and a wink. 😉👍
