Welcome to Altitude Pole Whanganui. Join our amazing community where you can experience a fun and full-body workout. Our instructors are super friendly and knowledgable, and they welcome everyone of all skill and fitness levels.

At Altitude, we believe in creating an inclusive environment where you can express yourself and feel empowered to reach your fitness goals. You'll have the chance to unlock your potential, build confidence, and reach new heights!

About the studio

When you arrive at Altitude Whanganui you'll come through the big red front door at the entrance to the building, then up the stairs, through the Altitude curtain, and into the studio! You'll arrive in our waiting area, and there are cubbies to store your things, plus changing rooms and toilets down the stairs at the back of the studio for you to get ready to pole!

The studio has polished wooden floors, large mirrors, and plenty of space between the 10 poles!

Our timetable is jam-packed with classes throughout the week. Classes run for 1 hour, Monday to Friday in the evening, Monday and Saturday mornings and Sunday evening. You’ll be sure to find a schedule perfect for you!

  • Pole Level 1

    Level 1 Pole

    Ready to start your pole dancing journey? Then our Level 1 Pole classes are for you! This beginner-level class is designed to teach you the fundamentals of pole dancing and build body awareness. It's the perfect way to get started on your pole dancing journey.

  • Pole Level 2

    Level 2 Pole

    Ready to take your pole dancing skills to the next level? Join our Pole Level 2 class! Building on the fundamentals you learned in Level 1, you'll start going higher up the pole and learning to invert. Get ready for a challenging and rewarding workout that will leave you feeling strong and confident. To attend this class you will need to be confident in our Level 1 curriculum.

    Our Pole Level 3 classes build on the skills you learned in Levels 1 and 2, you'll continue to work on invert skills and start to learn fundamental aerial moves. To attend this class you need to be confident in Levels 1 and 2.

    Our Pole Level 4 class is designed for those who are serious about advancing their skills. With a focus on advanced fundamental pole tricks and combos, you'll be challenged in new ways and amazed at what you can achieve. To attend this class you will need to be confident in Levels 1 to 3.

    Want to take your strength to the next level? Our Strength class is the perfect way to build power, endurance, and resilience. With a focus on conditioning exercises designed to target all areas of the body, this class is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their pole skills or just get stronger overall.

To attend classes at Whanganui you’ll need to be signed up as a member with us. A membership will give you access to a number of classes per week (starting off at 2 per week). What classes you do, though? That’s totally up to you!

    Emma is the owner of Altitude Whanganui & Palmerston North and the Head Instructor for Altitude. Her love of pole dance began in 2012 but her passion for performing art began much earlier than that - she used to be a Ballroom and Latin American dance instructor. Once pole dance entered her life, though, it's fair to say that it took over (in the best way possible).

    Katelyn has been a dance teacher for over 12 years, specializing in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary. She started pole dancing in February 2017 and found it challenging but captivating. Despite the difficulty, she persisted and is glad she did. Katelyn takes on life with a bubbly attitude, and hopes you’ll laugh at her jokes with her!

Now, she's an instructor and student at Altitude Whanganui, where she's fueled by the supportive community and thrives on sharing her passion with others in this amazing space.

    Taelor tried a class back in 2018 and instantly fell in love with it! She didn't have any dance or fitness background but soon realised how much fun it was to boogie, feel a bit silly, and challenge herself with other like-minded humans. She began teaching in 2016 and loves the joy of helping to encourage the development and growth of each student. Ashleigh has no dance or gymnastic background and wants everyone to see that there are no prerequisites to starting pole, just a little enthusiasm and your own sparkle.

Pole ignited a fire in her belly and Jessie quickly became passionate about her new found love for dance. Rachael feels that pole dancing has helped increase her strength and confidence, and she loves being part of the supportive community! She is so proud of what her body is capable of achieving - she just wishes she had discovered this sport a lot earlier in life!

    Airini has always loved sparkles, costumes and dressing up, and has enjoyed the performative aspects of pole dance. She has made massive gains in strength, flexibility and personal confidence. In her other lives, Airini is a teacher, writer and mum. She currently teaches human biology and chemistry and does a range of writing-related gigs.

    Keely has always been passionate about dancing. She has learnt Ballroom, Jazz, Latin, Hip Hop, Tap, Rock and Roll but found true love in Pole Dancing. What makes Keely so passionate about Pole Dancing is the mental health benefits. She is constantly seeing these amazing tricks, thinking "I'll never be able to do that", and then proving herself wrong!

Vic is the strongest she has ever been and has found a love of performing through the Altitude Whanganui Studio and the support of her pole family.     Natalie is obsessed with all thing flexibility, mobility, strength and gymnastics. She will talk your ears off for hours about these topics if you let her as they are the things she is most passionate about. Her flex classes may be hard and leave you sore for a few days, but you will see flexibility gains and health benefits that make it worth all the hard.

Having no previous fitness background, she loves that pole dance can be for everyone. When she's not poling, you can find her up a mountain or on another outdoor adventure.

    Min Yen first stepped into the world of pole dancing in 2021. Sports and the gym were her way of staying fit until she met her one true love; pole. Being a Malaysian, she is a huge foodie. Her passion for food is only rivalled by her passion for pole. When she's not munching on that cupcake, she's dropping into that cross-knee release.

    Sophie joined Altitude to try something new and to regain her fitness. With no prior dancing or gymnastics experience she felt like a fish out of water, but it wasn’t long before she started noticing her body getting stronger and she fell in love with pole dance. Joining pole boosted her body confidence. She soon found herself performing on stage, loving every moment.
