I tried a "Yes Day" and learned something I didn’t expect

The HQ team challenged our Founder, Karry Summers, to take on a Yes Day. The idea is simple - say yes to everything for 24 hours and then share the chaos that follows. We were ready for mayhem. We were expecting wild stories. But what actually happened? Well… keep on reading to find out.

You’ve probably heard of a Yes Day by now.

Say yes to everything for 24 hours. Simple.
And chaotic - or so I thought.

I decided to try it for myself. I figured it would shake things up, push me out of my comfort zone, and lead to some kind of spontaneous adventure. I even tried to cheat a little by starting on a Friday while the kids were at school, I was worried there would be too many yesses!

But by 3pm, I realised no one had actually asked me anything I could say yes to. No wild ideas. No big asks. Nothing!

It turns out my life on that Friday... was pretty uneventful.

So I tried again on Sunday, when the kids were home and I knew I’d be tested.

The first thing I said yes to was letting one of my boys finish a level on his game before turning it off. Normally, I’d say no. But this time I said yes.

And you know what? He finished the level and actually turned it off without a fuss. That was a win!

The only other notable yes? A trip through the car wash because the kids asked.

That was the highlight. The car wash.

I kept waiting for the “crazy” yeses.
The ones that would push me.
The ones that would make a good story.
But they never actually came.

And that’s when I started really rethinking the whole Yes Day idea.

Maybe We're Waiting for the Wrong Yeses

I went into this thinking a Yes Day was about letting life throw you into the unknown. But what if the unknown doesn’t come knocking?

Maybe the real point of saying yes isn’t about waiting for something wild to show up.

Maybe it’s about noticing all the little things you usually shut down.

Or better yet - maybe it’s about saying yes to yourself.

The ideas you’ve been sitting on.
The dreams you keep putting off.
The class you’ve always wanted to try but “don’t have time” for.
The hobby you keep saying you’re not good enough to start.
The trip you've been dreaming about.

How often do we say no to those things without even realising it?

You Don’t Have to Wait for Someone to Invite You

My Yes Day didn’t deliver the chaos or comedy I thought it would. But it did give me something else: a reminder that if you want more adventure in your life, you might need to go looking for it.

You don’t have to wait for someone to ask.
You don’t have to wait for the perfect time.
And you definitely don't need a Yes Day.

You just need to notice where you’re saying no - and try saying yes instead.
