Welcome to Altitude Central - where it all began! We are the largest Altitude Pole studio in NZ and are lucky enough to have our sister brand, Altitude Aerials here also. We have 4 rooms all with tall dance studio mirrors that stretch the length of the rooms, a Waiting Room and two separate Consult Rooms. When you enter, you'll walk into our cozy Waiting Room, with toilets and changing rooms to your left and seating all around, our first Consult Room will be just off to your right where you'll be greeted with open arms!
Past our Waiting Room, you'll enter into the Atrium! Our first pole room with 11x 45mm Stainless Steel x-poles, all fitted with x-joints. Also in the Atrium just around the corner is our second Consult Room, when this space is not in use, we find the dim lighting and enclosed space a really nice place to recollect. Think of it as a Safe Space away if you need it.
Just past the Atrium is our second pole room, the Boudoir. The Boudoir is a luxurious space with 10x 45mm Stainless Steel x-poles, and 2x 40mm Stainless Steel x-poles. Most of our Heels and Floorwork classes can be found in this room.
If we take you back into the Waiting Room, on your right you will enter into the Lounge. This is a smaller space dedicated for all our Stretch, Dance and Extra classes!
Divided by a large curtain, just past the Lounge, we have the Sky Room. The Sky is where all things aerials happens, we specialize in aerial silks, lyra and aerial sling. Consisting of 6x adjustable rig points, all with big blue crash mats underneath for safety.
At our studio, we warmly embrace individuals of all fitness levels! Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a complete beginner, we're thrilled to provide a supportive and motivating space for you to pursue your personal fitness goals. Your journey with us will be filled with encouragement and friendly camaraderie, ensuring that you feel right at home as you strive to achieve your best!
We have 6 car parks on site marked Altitude Pole Christchurch Central, as well as plentiful street parking available. Kuri parking available after hours only.
We are next door to Kuri and we share the same car park entrance. We are at the Fitzgerald end of St Asaph Street (this is a two way street on our end).

Ready to start your pole dancing journey? Then our Level 1 Pole classes are for you! This beginner-level class is designed to teach you the fundamentals of pole dancing and build body awareness. It's the perfect way to get started on your pole dancing journey.
Ready to take your pole dancing skills to the next level? Join our Pole Level 2 class! Building on the fundamentals you learned in Level 1, you'll start going higher up the pole and learning to invert. Get ready for a challenging and rewarding workout that will leave you feeling strong and confident. To attend this class you will need to be confident in our Level 1 curriculum.
Our Pole Level 3 classes build on the skills you learned in Levels 1 and 2, you'll continue to work on invert skills and start to learn fundamental aerial moves. To attend this class you need to be confident in Levels 1 and 2.
Our Pole Level 4 class is designed for those who are serious about advancing their skills. With a focus on advanced fundamental pole tricks and combos, you'll be challenged in new ways and amazed at what you can achieve. To attend this class you will need to be confident in Levels 1 to 3.
Level 5+ is our most advanced class type, only available to those who are competent in the previous levels. With a focus on advanced pole tricks and combos that require more strength and flexibility, you'll be pushed to new heights.
Ever wanted to be able to do the splits? Or backbends? Then our Stretch & Flex classes are the one for you! Learn safe stretching techniques to help with the flexibility needed for our aerial arts, or just in general!
This class will be about understanding and identifying engagement through a variety of exercises. Centring in and taking time to breathe and be in your body, be in the space. Think foam rolling, spiky ball, golf ball, all over body stretch, taking time to release through the areas we get tight in e.g. shoulders, glutes, hamstrings, quads and wrists. Strength and muscle engagement exercises using resistance bands, and targeting smaller muscle groups such as the rotator cuff, forearm tendons, ankle stability, shins, calves, rhomboids... the list goes on! Please BYO foam roller. All levels of flex welcome.
Want to add more dance and flow to your pole schedule? Our Pole Flow class is the perfect way to do it! With a focus on movement, musicality, and fluidity, you'll learn to string together ground-based pole moves in a beautiful and graceful way. Attending Level 1 Pole is recommended.
Our Spin Pole classes focus on learning how to dance on a spinning pole and create beautiful and dynamic combos. You'll be challenged in new ways and amazed at what you can achieve. A spinning pole is a setting on our poles that can make them spin in the direction of your movements from your body weight and momentum. This is different to our regular Levels classes that are on static poles that don't move.
Want to master the art of pole dancing choreography? Our Pole Combos class is the perfect way to do it! With a focus on creating impressive combos by stringing together pole moves, you'll learn how to flow smoothly and confidently between tricks.
Our Heels class is where you'll learn how to move gracefully and confidently in any pair of heels. With a focus on fluid movement and musicality, this class is perfect for anyone who wants to add some sass and style to their pole dancing.
Want to add some new skills to your pole dancing repertoire? Our Floorwork class is where it's at! With a focus on ground-based moves like Fish Flops and shoulder rolls, you'll learn how to move gracefully and fluidly on the floor. This class can also incorporate ground-based pole tricks, giving you a whole new way to work your body.
Looking for a class where you can work on your own pole goals with guidance from one of our instructors? Pole Play is the perfect way to get one-on-one guidance from our experienced instructors while working on your own unique pole routine or trick!
Training Times are designed for experienced pole dancers who are looking for more time on the pole and the opportunity to work on their own skills. These sessions are exclusively available to our add-on pack holders and Unlimited Class members, so you can maximize your pole practice and take your skills to the next level. These sessions don't have an instructor taking them, so you will need to be approved prior to attending.
Ready to take your strength and balance to new heights? Our Handbalance class is where you'll learn how to defy gravity with your own two hands. From handstands to forearm stands and everything in between, you'll learn how to balance and hold your body weight in new and challenging ways.
All levels welcome, no apparatus needed! Join our Dance Styles class! This class will have you learning a piece of choreography to some music and dancing your woes away! Fun, sometimes dramatic, and oh-so luscious! You definitely want to give this class a go!
Welcome to Silks Level 1 - your introductory journey into the world of aerial silks. In this beginner-friendly class, we'll guide you through the foundational skills and poses that make up the mesmerising art form of aerial silks. You'll explore climbing, wrapping and basic drops, all while suspended in the beautiful silks.
Ready to weave your way to the next level in your aerial silks journey? Our Level 2 class is designed to challenge you, offering a curriculum that utilises drills and progressions to extend your abilities. Expect to see your silks skills soar and your strength surge as you work towards mastering this mesmerising form of aerial dance.
For those ready to take their silks skills to the highest tier, our Level 3 class is where it's at! This advanced session continues to challenge your aerial prowess, introducing you to new, trend-setting tricks and techniques. Please note, a check-off from Level 2 Silks is required before attendance. Prepare to push your limits and continue your ascent in this exhilarating aerial art form!
Time to take all the skills and knowledge learnt in L1 and L2 Silks and turn those moves into unique transitions and combos. This class is very much an endurance class as it continues to build on strength, agility and control.
Soar into the world of aerial arts with our beginner-friendly Aerial Sling class. Here, you'll merge strength-building and elegance as you learn to climb, swing, and transition between silks and the supportive aerial sling. A perfect introduction to an uplifting journey in dance and fitness.
This class takes your Aerial Sling techniques to the next level. You will learn new tricks, transitions and drops in the Sling, working them together to form combos. Ideally have completed all Aerial Sling weeks in Level 1 Tissu, or be able to sling invert. Think of this class the continuation of your Sling journey!
Embark on an aerial adventure with us in our Level 1 Aerial Hoop class! You'll get acquainted with the hoop, learning the fundamental poses and transitions that form the foundation of this dynamic discipline. Expect to boost your upper body strength, enhance your flexibility, and experience the sheer joy of defying gravity. Come feel radiant as you strike poses on a hoop suspended in the air!
With the basics under your belt from Level 1, our Level 2 Aerial Hoop class will elevate your aerial journey, introducing you to new poses and more intricate transitions. The spotlight in this class is on inverts, giving you a fresh perspective on your aerial skills. Take your aerial hoop skills to new heights in our Level 3 class! Here, you'll delve into more unique moves and captivating transitions, making use of both the top and bottom bars of the hoop. Karry Summers, the founder of Altitude Pole, has been teaching pole dancing since 2010. With a notable record in global competitions, she secured victories in the Australian Pole Theatre and Championships, and earned runner-up at the 2012 World Pole Champs. As an Xpert qualified Master Trainer, Karry eagerly imparts her extensive knowledge to students of all levels.
Pole has become Libi's passion and life, and the joy it brings being a part of the pole community is something she could not have imagined when she started around 6 years ago. Libi loves teaching, seeing students make new friends, gain confidence as they learn new moves, and find their own glorious style.
Tash been poling since 2013 and instantly fell in love with it. She fell in love with how fun fitness can be, how supportive and welcoming the people are and how much confidence it can give you. Coming from no dance or gymnastics background, Tash is the perfect example to show that pole and aerial arts is for anyone! She has a fondness for dynamic tricks and drops!
Rosie is one of our awesome pole fitness and stretch instructors! She's recently celebrated a decade of teaching with us. When it comes to all things bendy, Rosie is absolutely in her element. She's got the moves and the passion to help you reach new levels of flexibility and strength. Currently on Maternity Leave.
Anna (also known by her alter ego Miss Evie X) started with Altitude in 2015. She has a huge appreciation for the sexy, sensual, sassy side of pole and is incredibly grateful to the glorious strippers and sex workers that paved the way for this industry! If you want to learn how to embrace your sensual side, Anna's ya gal! ❤
Lizzie instantly fell in love with pole dancing! The community and the incredible things her body could do amazed her. She's drawn to heels, floorwork, and dance. Being a stripper made her love it even more, appreciating the artistry behind it. Now, she wants to share her passion, boost others' confidence, and spread the joy of pole dancing! 😊
Megan is obsessed with the art that is pole dancing, whether it's fast cheeky movements or slow flow her hearts feeling all the feels that are ALTITUDE. Her fav moves are all things that involve a big SPREADIE!😁The Altitude space has created many beautiful friendships for her and she loves watching this magic level of connection between students continue to blossom.
Giorgia joined Altitude in 2020 and quickly fell in love with the sport, becoming addicted! She teaches all the apparatuses: pole, hoop, silks and sling! She also LOVES rolling on the floor in her long pointy heels. Giorgia is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and will never shy away from big drops, fast spins, or famously painful moves.
Introducing Rhi, a seasoned pole dancer since 2015 and an instructor since 2017. Through pole, she discovered her inner strength and confidence, which she's grateful for. Now in Christchurch, she's all about exploring epic hikes and rock climbing adventures. Rhi proudly holds the titles of Miss Pole Queen Amateur 2019 and Miss Show Girl first runner-up 2018. 🌟
Brenna's dance journey began at a young age, exploring various styles. After a study break, she craved the dance floor again. Altitude became her new adventure in 2018. Though her first class felt like a "hot mess," she persisted, growing in confidence and strength. Brenna adores flowing with sassy, dynamic choreography that makes you feel like a Queen!
Ainsley joined Altitude in 2021, starting with pole and later falling in love with aerials. Ainsley is the proud winner of the 2023 Aerial Mystic Pop Culture award. Ainsley is also a pro makeup artist. She particularly loves special effects makeup because of all the creepy stuff she can turn herself into. She also loves video games, cosplay and Dungeons and dragons
Nicola started aerials back in 2021 and quickly feel in love. She loves both hammock and silks, but her first love is and always will be Lyra (aerial hoop)! With a background in ballet and dance, Nicola has a special interest in technique, musicality and flow. She also loves exploring beautiful shapes and is a self-confessed spin addict!
Nicole started her pole and aerials journey in June 2020 and has completely fallen in love with the art form! She loves the confidence and feeling that pole and aerials gives! No stranger to the dance industry, she has a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Musical Theatre and has trained in many styles of dance including Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Contemporary and more.
In 2016, watching NZAPP inspired Royce to start pole dancing. With a passion for calisthenics, Royce specialises in strength and dynamic moves. From contemporary flow to heels, Royce experiments with different styles in his performance. Royce has gained a strong understanding of flexibility and mobility from his own journey and can't wait to share that with you.
In 2018, Stacey kicked off her pole dancing journey at Altitude and soon after, she took up aerial hoop too. Through Pole & Hoop, she embraced her inner sass queen and bonded with like-minded unicorns, feeling more connected to herself. Stacey is the ultimate cheerleader, and loves sharing her passion for pole and hoop with others.
In 2018, Petra joined Altitude with two goals: getting stronger and making new connections. After experimenting with various apparatuses she fell in love with the soft silks. She loves creating combos that have a dramatic flair. She enjoys creating a supportive and cheerful atmosphere for all who join her classes.
Felicity joined Altitude in October 2020 and she quickly became addicted to all of the classes particularly aerial hoop. As part of the admin team, you'll likely meet Felicity when you begin your journey at Altitude. Her favourite part of instructing is watching the self confidence grow in students as they become addicted just like she did. Currently on Mat Leave.
Ruby has been with Altitude since 2016 and teaching since November 2020. She teaches hoop and silks while occasionally flirting with pole as a student. She loves good muscle engagement, scary fun drops, and helping her students reach new heights (pun intended) in all things aerial! Ruby loves the stage and will never shy away from an opportunity to perform.
Becky started at Altitude back in 2013 with no fitness background. She immediately fell in love with the Altitude community and the fun challenge that pole offers. She loves the social aspect of pole, and being a part of such an amazing supportive community. When she isn't training pole or lyra, you can find her out on adventures with her dogs Sweetpea and Ninja.
Beth started her pole journey back in 2019 and it has been one of her passions ever since. She has a love for all things tricky, flippy and dynamic and even took out 1st place for Tricks in the Dynasty Pole Competition 2023. With a background in gymnastics she's not one to shy away from those scary drops, painful moves and unique transitions.
Laura has been poling since 2012. She's tried her hand at a variety of circus skills over the years and now mainly does pole, stretch, and acro. You'll catch her in her regular stretch class and covering when required.
All the way from the Czech Republic, Kristyna started pole in 2018. With a strong dance and fitness background and a qualified Personal Trainer and Zumba instructor Kristyna has a wealth of knowledge and experience! But it's pole dance that holds a special place in her heart. Outside of the studio Kristyna loves taking photos and hanging with her furry friends.
Mel fell in love with pole dancing in 2018 and joined the Altitude family when she moved to Christchurch in late 2020. She quickly developed a passion for silks as well. Mel thrives on stage, particularly when glitter or feathers are involved. She has performed at various events like showcases, NZAPP, Pole Inferno, Pole Stars, and Pole Artistry Grand Masters.
Georgia started her journey with aerials back in 2018 after watching her friend perform and has been hooked ever since! Georgia has a background in teaching ballet, jazz, hip hop and competitive aerobics. As a full time nurse Georgia loves how aerials is both fitness and fun, being able to fly around and get creative hardly makes it feel like exercise!
Noelle joined Altitude Pole in 2017. Her passion for pole has given her opportunities to perform and compete throughout New Zealand and Australia, nabbing a few titles along the way. She loves the challenges and creative freedom pole has to offer. If not on the pole or on the floor, she'll be snuggling on the furniture or on someone at an Altitude studio somewhere.
Dale joined Altitude in 2019, and it turned out to be her best move. Two months in, she jumped into her first competition and fell in love with performing. A year later, lyra stole her heart after watching a showcase. Altitude is her chill space to unwind and shake off self-doubt. She's pumped to share the love, help others face their fears, and just enjoy the ride!
In 2020, Ali became part of the Altitude Whānau after coming back from the United States due to the pandemic. It turned out to be one of the best decisions she ever made! Starting with pole, she gradually ventured into aerials, and before she knew it, lyra and pole became her twin passions. When she's not in the studio, you can catch her reading or performing.
Chrissy started at Altitude in 2020 and instantly fell in love with pole. No stranger to the dance world, Chrissy has been performing and competing in ballet and contemporary dance since she was 11 years old. She was a silver medalist at the World Championships of Performing Arts in 2019 and loves the passion, creativity and confidence that movement gives her!
With a background in Jazz from when she was young, Morgan got into pole dancing in mid 2021. She immediately became obsessed with the community and the new style of movement. She says being part of the pole community has brought some of the most fulfilling friendships, does wonders for mental health, and has been such a positive addition to my life in every way!
Jess firmly believes that pole and aerials is for every body and loves working on adaptation to prove this. Her love of learning saw her qualify as a personal trainer in 2020 and she is always keen to chat about the latest movement podcast she has been listening to.
Toni/Flora is a lover of all things floor, flow and heels. A server of slinkery and sensuality, she finds her passion in providing a safe space for students to find empowerment, liberation and unique expression through sensual movement and dance. She loves to watch students' confidence grow and will always stop to chat about new Pleasers!
