Aerial Silk and Hoop Classes at Select Altitude Studios

You don't have to join the circus... but you could learn their tricks 😏

Aerial arts are exactly what they sound like - dancing and moving through the air on different aerial apparatus. A handful of Altitude studios run aerial classes alongside pole, taught by the same kind of instructors you'd expect from us.

Surprise yourself. Then do it again, and again... and again.

Let's take a guess. You've watched aerial performances, whether online or in person, and thought to yourself "That's SO cool, I wish I could do that"...?

Whether it was a dancer gracefully transitioning through beautiful shapes in a hoop floating through the air, turning themselves into the most ethereal of pretzels.

Or watching a performer lifting their whole body, wrapped in liquid looking fabric while making the entire thing look effortless. Like it's just second nature to them.

If those kind of performances light a fire in your soul...

We have news for you.

You can learn aerials, too.

At select Altitude studios.

You can learn the tricks, the shapes, build the strength to climb and drop. Discover what your body is truly capable of - and then do it all over again with something new.

You can do it all. You've just got to start.

Where to find aerial classes at Altitude.

Aerial classes require specialist rigging that not all Altitude studios have. You'll find aerial classes at these Altitude locations across New Zealand. 👇

Aerial Silks.

Or "Tissu"

Long fabric panels suspended from the ceiling. You'll climb, wrap, and flow through them - fluid, powerful, and quite magical when it all comes together.

Aerial Hoop.

Or "Lyra"

A steel hoop suspended from the ceiling. You'll spin in it, hang from it, and find yourself in shapes you weren't sure your body could make. It's a workout, an art form, both at the same time.

Thinking about it but still got questions? Here's our aerials FAQ.

Are these classes for complete beginners?

Yup! Just like our pole dancing classes, Aerial classes at Altitude start at Level 1, designed for people starting from scratch. No experience, no prior training, no circus background required. Just curiosity.

It might be QUITE a new experience for you - but if you're here, you're probably the type who will love it.

Do you have to be fit to start?

Nope. You'll build the strength and fitness you need through the classes themselves. Most people are surprised by how quickly that happens - so much so that they impress themselves. 💅

Is my size / shape / age / gender okay?

Yes. Aerial arts are for everyone - regardless of age, body type, fitness level or background. If you're curious, you're welcome.

What should I wear?

If you've been watching videos online you're probably wondering where a grown-up even gets a sparkly leotard. You don't need to worry about all that for now. The exciting world of aerials fashion comes later on in your journey, and even then it's still optional.

For now, all you need to think about wearing is a pair of leggings and a comfortable top. You'll want leggings rather than shorts to help avoid getting your skin pinched by the apparatus, and any ole pair will do nicely.

Oh, and as a general rule, avoid wearing jewelry! Not only can it get in the way while you're on the apparatus, it can damage the equipment (especially the silks). And rings can be especially dangerous for your fingers - so best to leave them off before class.
